Affiliate Disclosure
Yes, we earn money from some of these links.
Some links on The Silicon Scroll are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission from the retailer. You pay exactly the same price either way — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
That commission plays no part in what we recommend. Rankings, best picks, and comparisons on this site are decided before anyone checks whether a product has an affiliate programme.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

What an affiliate link actually is
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a retailer with a tracking code attached. When you click it, the retailer records that you arrived from this site. If you then buy something within a set window, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale.
Three things follow from that, and they are worth being clear about:
- The price you pay does not change. An affiliate link never costs you more than going to the retailer directly. There is no surcharge and no markup.
- We do not know who you are. We see aggregate reports — clicks, orders, commission totals. We do not receive your name, address, payment details, or order contents.
- The retailer may set a cookie. That is how the tracking works. How cookies are used on this site, and what you can do about them, is covered in our privacy policy.
Which programmes we take part in
We name our commercial relationships rather than hiding behind a generic statement. This is the current list, and we update it when it changes.
Amazon Associates
Our main affiliate relationship. Covers Amazon storefronts in several countries. The disclosure statement required by Amazon appears at the top of this page and in our site footer.
[Retailer name]
[One line: what this programme covers — which product categories or regions.]
[Affiliate network name]
[One line: which retailers or brands you reach through this network.]
If a link on this site goes to a retailer not listed here, it is not an affiliate link and we earn nothing from it. We link to whatever source is most useful, including places that pay us nothing at all.
How we mark affiliate links
A disclosure buried on a page you never visit is not a disclosure. Ours works on three levels, so you are told before you click, not after.
- Every article that contains affiliate links carries a short notice near the top, above the point where the first link appears.
- Individual affiliate links are marked in the text where it is not otherwise obvious, using a plain label such as “(paid link)”.
- Affiliate links carry the
rel="sponsored"attribute, which tells search engines the link is commercial. - This full disclosure page is linked from the footer of every page on the site.
What commissions do not buy
This is the part that matters. Any site can disclose that it earns commissions. The question is whether those commissions shape the advice.
- No retailer or manufacturer can pay to be recommended, ranked higher, or included in a comparison.
- Commission rates play no part in which product we name as a best pick. We do not check the rate before deciding.
- Where the right recommendation has no affiliate programme at all, we still recommend it and link to it.
- We do not publish sponsored articles, paid reviews, or guest posts, and we do not sell links in existing articles.
- Advertisers and affiliate partners see no article before publication and have no right of approval over anything we write.
- If we would lose commission by telling you a product is not worth buying, we tell you anyway.
How we reach recommendations in the first place — including the fact that we do not run a hardware testing lab — is set out in full in our editorial policy.
Display advertising
Alongside affiliate links, this site carries display advertising. Those ads are served by third-party advertising networks, which may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
We do not choose which individual ads appear, and an ad appearing next to an article is not an endorsement of the advertiser by us, or of us by the advertiser. Details of the ad networks we use and how to manage ad personalisation are in our privacy policy.
Prices, stock and product changes
Component prices move constantly and stock disappears without warning. Any price shown in an article was accurate on the date the article was last verified, and it is a reference point rather than a quote.
Retailers also change product listings. A link that pointed at one revision of a motherboard may later show a different one. Always check the model number, revision, and specifications on the retailer’s page before you buy. We cannot be responsible for a purchase made on the basis of a listing that changed after we linked to it — see our disclaimer.
Why this page exists
Partly because we think you are entitled to know. Partly because it is required.
The United States Federal Trade Commission requires that a material connection between a publisher and a seller — such as earning a commission — is disclosed clearly and conspicuously, under its Endorsement Guides. Amazon’s Associates Programme Operating Agreement separately requires the specific statement shown at the top of this page. In India, where this site is published, the Advertising Standards Council of India sets comparable disclosure expectations for digital advertising.
This page is our disclosure. If anything on it is unclear, or if you think a specific article is not disclosing properly, write to info@thesiliconscroll.com and we will fix it.
