1. Accepting these terms
By accessing or using the Site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree to them, please do not use the Site.
These terms should be read together with our privacy policy, our disclaimer, and our affiliate disclosure, all of which form part of the agreement between us.
We may change these terms from time to time. The effective date above shows when the current version took effect, and continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated version. Where a change is significant, we will make it obvious.
2. How you may use the Site
You may read, browse, print, and share the Site for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may link to any page on the Site freely, provided you do not imply an endorsement or association that does not exist.
You may quote a reasonable, short extract from an article for the purposes of comment, criticism, review, or news reporting, provided you credit The Silicon Scroll and link to the original page.
Anything beyond that needs our written permission. Ask at info@thesiliconscroll.com; we are reasonable about genuine requests.
3. Our content and your rights in it
All Content on the Site is owned by us or licensed to us, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. Our name, logo, and branding are our property.
Product names, brand names, model numbers, and logos belonging to third parties are the property of their respective owners and are used on the Site for identification and descriptive purposes only. Their use does not imply any affiliation with or endorsement by those companies.
Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership in the Content to you. You receive only the limited permission to read and use the Site described in section 2.
4. Anything you submit
If you send us a comment, a correction, a topic suggestion, or any other material, you keep ownership of it. You do, however, grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, reproduce, adapt, and publish it in connection with the Site.
You confirm that anything you send is your own, that you are entitled to send it, and that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights or break any law. We may edit, decline to publish, or remove any submission at our discretion.
Corrections are the exception we actively want. If you send us a factual correction, we will check it and, where you are right, fix the article — as described in our editorial policy.
5. What you must not do
When using the Site, you must not:
- Copy, republish, or redistribute our Content in whole or in substantial part, in any medium, without our written permission.
- Scrape, harvest, crawl, or otherwise systematically extract Content from the Site by automated means, except by a search engine crawler obeying our robots file.
- Use our Content to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop any machine learning or artificial intelligence model or dataset, without our express written permission.
- Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright notice, byline, attribution, or disclosure on our Content.
- Present our Content as your own, or create a site or feed that substantially reproduces the Site.
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Site, its servers, or any connected system, or probe it for vulnerabilities.
- Introduce malware, launch denial-of-service attacks, or place an unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
- Post or transmit anything unlawful, defamatory, harassing, abusive, or infringing through any feature of the Site.
- Use the Site for any commercial purpose, including advertising or solicitation, without our permission.
6. Links, retailers and advertising
The Site links to manufacturer documentation, standards bodies, retailers, and other publications. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or practices. A link is not an endorsement, and once you leave the Site the destination’s own terms apply.
Some links are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a commission if you buy through them at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. See our affiliate disclosure for the full explanation.
Any transaction you enter into with a retailer is between you and that retailer. We are not a party to it and have no responsibility for pricing, stock, delivery, returns, warranty, or anything else arising from it.
Advertisements are served by third-party networks. We do not select individual advertisements, and an advertisement appearing beside an article is not an endorsement in either direction.
7. No warranties
The Site and its Content are provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, as to accuracy, completeness, currency, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or uninterrupted availability.
We do not operate a hardware testing laboratory and do not own most of the products we write about. Our work is documentary research based on published sources rather than hands-on measurement. This is set out in full in our editorial policy, and the practical limits of what we publish are covered in our disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
Nothing on the Site is professional, technical, electrical, financial, or legal advice. You are responsible for verifying compatibility, specifications, prices, and safety information against the manufacturer’s own documentation before acting.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we, our team members, and our contributors will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Site or from any action you take based on its Content — including damage to hardware, loss of data, loss of profits, business interruption, or any indirect or consequential loss.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability to you is limited to one thousand Indian rupees (₹1,000).
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, liability, or reasonable cost arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the Site, or your infringement of any third party’s rights through your use of the Site.
10. Availability and access
We aim to keep the Site available, but we do not guarantee it. We may change, suspend, or withdraw any part of the Site, or the whole of it, at any time and without notice.
We may restrict or refuse access to anyone who breaches these terms, abuses the Site, or places an unreasonable load on it. We may do this without notice and without explanation.
Articles may be updated, corrected, or removed. We do not guarantee that any particular page will remain available at any particular address, though we avoid breaking links where we reasonably can.
11. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of the Site are governed by the laws of India.
The courts at Durg, Chhattisgarh, India, have exclusive jurisdiction over any such dispute, except that if you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may also have the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your own country, and nothing here removes any protection available to you under the mandatory consumer law of your place of residence.
Before going anywhere near a court, please write to info@thesiliconscroll.com. Almost everything — a factual dispute, a copyright question, a complaint about coverage — is resolved faster and better by email.
12. General terms
Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, that provision is severed and the rest continues in force.
No waiver
If we do not enforce a right under these terms on one occasion, that does not waive it on any other occasion.
Entire agreement
These terms, together with our privacy policy, disclaimer, affiliate disclosure, and editorial policy, form the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site.
Assignment
We may transfer our rights and obligations under these terms to another entity, for example if the Site is sold. You may not transfer yours without our written consent.
